“Towards…” started life circa-late 2008 as a clutch of track titles sloshing about in my addled brain, not to mention a vague sense re: how each piece should sound…before long, a plan was hatched to make the album a reality- in spiffing TAPE form, no less, but- to cut a rather tedious and uneventful story short- I failed spectacularly to make this happen…UNTIL NOW…yeah, I mean- the 2012 FREE GONK download served its purpose, but let’s face it- you secretly *wanted* this tape version all along!! No?? Just me, then…

Brown C50 cassette in a clear case with full colour artwork and tape labels, plus an insert.

The Golden Gonk – “Sand Behind the Curtains″ (Tuscan Peach Tapes, TPT009)

YET ANOTHER goshdarned tangible reissue of a FREE GONK download from yesteryear, this time brought to you by the fine folks at Tuscan Peach Tapes. Here’s what I said about the album on its original release…

“Sand Behind the Curtains” is a musical retelling of two mornings…the distinct stages of two very strange journeys- the kind we all have from time to time…the kind where hitherto undiscovered places give you the feeling they’ve been with you forever, yet familiar places you pass through seem alien…the kind where everything you see, everything you say, everything you do, everything you lack seems to be loaded with some sort of ‘significance’…the kind that awaken old, forgotten ghosts…the kind that bring new ghosts into your life to haunt you in years to come…

All the psychedelic minimalist cosmic pagan synth drone folk cut-up distorted ambient drifting swirling improv field recording freak out sounds on this album were captured/collaged/crossfaded/curdled/cremated by The Golden Gonk in late 2012.

This release and other Tuscan Peach Tapes titles are available in my shop:

So, that’s it for not only another year, but another *decade*…man alive- what *is* happening?! The 2010s started and ended in utter shite, but I suppose most of the in-between stuff was pretty decent…yeah- that sounds like a fair assessment!! Thanks, as ever, to everyone who has supported the label over the past few years- it really does mean a lot.

2019 was a pretty quiet one on the release front, but I’ve got plenty of cool stuff lined up for 2020, including a slew of reissues, not to mention some super split cassette aktion, featuring an array of stellar underground talent…watch this space!!
